Practice for Pandemic by Giving Kids Flu Shots
October 21, 2009

By Monica Wepking, Editor If there was ever an emergency pandemic or large-scale disaster and the entire community needed help or inoculated Wagner and Lake Andes will be ready. On Thursday, October 15, 2009 there was a Point of Distribution (POD) walk-through at Wagner Community School (WCS) for a pandemic practice that will take place on November 5, 2009. The practice will include giving seasonal flu and H1N1 (if available) shots to kids 6 months -18 years of age at WCS from 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. and Andes Central School in Lake Andes from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Parents who bring their children for shots will also be inoculated. No other adults, unless you are a POD volunteer (to volunteer contact Barb Wiechmann at 384-3487), will receive the free flu shots. Volunteers can also register online at https://volunteers.serv.sd.gov/VolunteerMobilizer/. Parents are asked to park in WCS's west parking lot and enter through those doors. After getting the shots everyone will exit through the east doors. Plans are to bus parents back to their cars. In order to get the shots kids will be sent home a consent form that needs to be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to the school.
